Jr. Sailing

Junior Sailing starts Monday, June 25th! This year Mary Wachowicz will be our Head Instructor. Mary is an active college sailor attending Fordham University . She is ably assisted by two instructors who have been certified by US Sailing as Level 1 coaches. In addition they take a Safe Powerboating course and are Red Cross CPR certified. For our beginners we will be teaching the basics in the Optimist Dinghy with an emphasis on safety on the water. The Opti is the Jr. Sailing teaching dinghy of choice with over 400,000 boats worldwide. Our seasoned sailors will be learning the fundamentals of racing in the Optis as well as Blue Jays.

Thursday evenings (weather permitting) will provide an opportunity to our sailors to hone their skills by racing in an informal friendly environment. Additionally we’re associated with the Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound. All full time enrollees receive membership in the JSALIS. This provides for racing up and down the sound at other clubs.

The Fees:

* 3days/week & Thursday evening racing $475.00
* 4days/week & Thursday evening racing $550.00
* $125 boat fee

*$175 non-member fee.

For older teens (15+) the JSA has started a ‘Next Step’ sailing program where the participants compete at various clubs and receive coaching prior to the event.

Adult Sailing Course

By the way....Adult Learn to Sail will be on selected evenings. The focus will be on fundamentals. They will consist of short chalkboard session followed by an evening sail taught by our US Sailing Certified Instructors on the Club’s Rhodes 19. Space will be limited. Cost $175 for three weeks.
